The EU directive 2011/65/eu, (RoHS-2), in effect since 2011, restricts the use of 10 hazardous substances above a certain threshold level, when used in electrical and electronic equipment. However a number of exemptions still allow the use of these hazardous substances. For the substance Cadmium (Cd) the use is allowed in electrical contacts. This exemption to the restriction of Cd will expire on July 21, 2016 and from that date onwards, the use of Cd in relays is not allowed.
Alternatives for Cadmium relays
Ineltro has prepared several options to help design out the Cd containing relays and replace these by Cd free and RoHS compliant relay types. Depending on the applications and specific contact loads, it may be possible to use existing relay types, with cadmium free AgSnO2 or AgNi contact material. In other cases, new alternative relay types might be considered. If you are interested in our Cadmium Free Relays offer please contact Ineltro Halmer Electronics GmbH.
