HAHN – LLC – RESONANT CONVERTERS

In order to improve the efficiency and under the sign of the ErP Directives 2009/125/EC, power supply manufacturers have fought hardin recent years for every single percent. The growing demand for moreefficiency in energy has led to a reassessment of the used circuittechnology. The result is to leave the topology of single endedconverters ( flyback converter or forward converters ) in order to put onLLC-resonant converters.

The expression of LLC-resonant converter describes the input circuit of the power supply. The first L stands for the magnetizing inductance of the transformer.

The second L stands for the dispersed inductance ( leakage inductance ) of the transformer. Due to special design, specific parasitic effects are used in a magnetic component, whichare in general unacceptable. The C stands for the additional capacitor in the input seriesresonant circuit.
The main manufacturers of active components provide more powerful chips. These chips offer the realization of high efficiency with a very low complexity of the circuits.

The special feature of this topology is that the switches do not turn in a resonant converterwhen the voltage across the switches is high, but they can turn in a moment when thevoltage difference goes to zero ( zero voltage switching). Thus almost no power loss willoccur.
The realization of a SMPS power supply with an efficiency of about 90-96% is guaranteedwith an LLC-resonant converter of HAHN and provides our customers with newopportunities.

HAHN offers the technical support as well as quick and economical solutions for the optimalrealization of LLC resonant converters. In close co-operation with our suppliers, we provideshort-term samples in well-known HAHN-quality.

Whether smaller or bigger series – the highly flexible HAHN production concept makes itpossible, to meet each individual and technical requirement of the customer.
